World peace, if we can achieve it, could be the most essential accomplishment of our species. Perhaps greater than the discovery of fire, the invention of writing, or the creation of a global brain, peace is an ever elusive but necessary ideal of humanity.
Studies show that societies with more gender equality have less conflict, spend less money on defense, and have more social spending. When women are involved in negotiations for peace, the accords last longer and are more likely to be accepted by the population. Yet most peace agreements have no women signatories. Only one woman has signed a final peace accord as a chief negotiator anywhere in the world – the inspirational Miriam Coronel-Ferrer in the Philippines.
Kimberly Weichel is a peacebuilder, women's leadership champion, cross-cultural specialist, author and non-profit leader who has worked on the forefront of building bridges between cultures and peoples for over 30 years.Â
She has directed international projects, peacebuilding initiatives, women's leadership projects, and cross-cultural education programs. Her global work includes extensive experience in Russia, South Africa, East Africa, Southeast Asia, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Canada, and Australia, as well as in the U.S. working with consulting firms, U.S. and Canadian government agencies, non-profit organizations, international institutions including the United Nations, and others.Â
She currently teaches at Dominican University in Marin County, mentors young women, advises Women of Excellence, Women of Faith, is Chair of the Global Impact Initiative, and on the board of Light My Fire, an organization that supports women's health and education projects.Â
She is the author of a number of books, including Beyond Borders: One Woman's Journey of Courage, Passion and Inspiration (2016), Our Voices Matter: Wisdom, Hope and Action for Our Time (2019), and Uncovering New Possibilities: Insights From Our Time (2021).Â
