Voices for the Future: How We Can Create a More Perfect Union and a More Positive Future
An upcoming episode in the podcast series, Voices for the Future
Voices for the Future is a podcast series that I co-host, with my collaborator Anodea Judith.
The next program is Tuesday, April 26th, at 7pm Eastern/4pm Pacific, and is entitled How We Can Create a More Perfect Union and a More Positive Future.
For the latest episode, Anodea will interview me, in conjunction with the publication of my new book, Toward a More Perfect Union: From Scarcity to Abundance For All--which is being released to the public on April 26th!

Toward a More Perfect Union: From Scarcity to Abundance For All is a political, economic, psychological, and spiritual exploration of where we are as a society and world, the flaws in the system that the pandemic has exposed, and how we can create a more positive future, one that’s just, compassionate, sustainable, regenerative, holistic, and wise.
My new book is divided into two sections: the first section, called An Imperfect Union, looks at the times we live in and the problems we face, both societal and personal.
Climate change, wealth inequality, war, the pandemic, political instability and the weakening of democratic principles, oligarchs and kleptocrats, the flourishing of conspiracy theories, corporate consolidation and monopolization, and more are the societal issues, while the epidemic of loneliness and feelings of disconnection are the personal issues.
All of these are leading us to a sense that the world is spinning out of control.
In the second section of my book, called A Perfect Union, I lay out a path for creating a more positive future.
With a sprinkling of levity and humor, I talk about human flourishing for all; what Aretha Franklin can teach us about social cohesion; why Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the internet, is not a gazillionaire; the relationship between the Grateful Dead, famed Scottish poet Robbie Burns, and debt jubilees; recreating the spirit of the 1930s, when the U.S. saw the greatest period of mass enlightenment in its history; the specific and practical steps to creating a participatory democracy, social democracy, and economic democracy; the future of work; Universal Basic Income; a world without pandemics; a Green New Deal; and a vision of a future that some might consider utopia.
As I say in the Introduction of the book, “Who among us, left to our own devices, would ever decide they wanted to make a world like the one we currently live in, which increasingly is resembling a dystopia?”
I believe we can do better. And I hope you do too.
