New Episode of the Web Series Toward a More Perfect Union: What Woody Guthrie Can Teach Us Right Now
The above video is the latest episode of the new web series I’ve created, Toward a More Perfect Union.
Each episode examines a problem we face or gives solutions to issues faced, and is done so in a manner aimed to entertain you and make you laugh, make you cry, and/or make you think.
This episode, “What Woody Guthrie Can Teach Us Right Now,” shows the ideas that Woody Guthrie stood for, and their relevance right now. Ultimately, what Woody teaches us is that this land was made for you and me.
In this video, you'll hear a couple of Woody Guthrie songs: you'll hear Woody sing “Pastures of Plenty”; you'll see and hear Woody sing “John Henry”; and you'll hear “This Land Is Your Land.”
You'll also hear, in Woody's own words, his insightful observation that “people ain't livin' right, the human race ain't been treatin' each other right...”
Included in this episode is rare footage from The Great Depression and also from the Dust Bowl that swept Oklahoma, Texas and neighboring states in the 1930s.
