The above video is the latest episode of the web series I’ve created, Toward a More Perfect Union.
Each episode examines a problem we face or gives solutions to issues faced, and is done so in a manner aimed to entertain you and make you laugh, make you cry, and/or make you think.
This episode is called American Hustle.
The emphasis in America is on individualism and self-reliance, so if you want to make it, you have to earn it. And for many, it's believed hustle is the only way to do so.
While many developed nations around the world value hard work, hustle culture as seen in America is unique unto itself.
The competitive nature of the American economy, as well as the high cost of living, can create a sense of urgency and pressure to hustle and constantly strive for success. This can lead to a constant hustle in order to keep up or get ahead.
America was founded on hustle, and hustle has been ingrained in the American mindset since. Some work hard as their hustle, some use social media, some turn to crime, while others hustle through grift.
But then there's a whole separate class of American Hustle, people who use trickle up economics--taking money out of the pockets of you and me and putting it in theirs--that takes hustle and grift to an entirely new level. These hustlers are known as "Masters of the Universe."
It’s all about the hustle, because that’s the way of life in America—where you have to hustle to get and stay ahead.
And hey, if you're interested, I got a bridge in Brooklyn I'm selling--it's slightly used, so I'm willing to sell it at a discount. It's a really nice bridge, so get in touch if you're interested and we'll work out a deal.

Micheal, Merit plays a big role in the social order or class structure of the American Hustle. Woven through our psyche is a natural instinct to achieve something that is meaningful, valuable, honestly gives us relief from the hustling atmosphere around us. Unfortunately most of that relief is misdirected through attaining material goods or Spiritual Materialism instead of looking at our personal motivations which are often addictive patterns requiring more when the previous trinket or movie or oversized meal is had. We gullible serfs think ownership creates a kingdom of security. Talk with a homeless person who has been kicked out of their home because they were not keen enough to perceive all the subtle consequences of their mortgage agreement. It was stacked against their means to pay from the beginning as our legislative officials bought off by the largesse of unregulated banking has made it. They think it is a fair and balanced industry when it is totally preditorial. Then they were allowed, the Big Boys in Banking, City Bank, etc. to bundle those bad mortgage failures into a securities nightmare that led to the 2008 financial collapse, were they held to account for their bad business practices they knew were a risk they kept shoving further under the carpet? No they were Proclaimed too big to fail as it would crush the economic idealism of the American dream. Total BS contrary to how the the rest of us serfs must relate to economics. Thank the pathetic American congress for not following up with stricter regulations on banking, they along with the last six presidents Hustling like good Materlist have taken us to the cleaners to leave millions on the streets. We now are being hustled by Oligarchs who control who gets to talk and gets to servitude their fundamental materialism. When we are all in the streets maybe we will start to talk about revolution that serves the common good.
