Tracy Chapman’s song Talkin’ Bout a Revolution came out in 1988 — and it’s still relevant today.
In my documentary feature film, How to Save Democracy; in this Substack series I’ve been writing, The Revolution Will Be Televised, and for my upcoming documentary feature film, also called The Revolution Will Be Televised — now in pre-production — I talk about how the U.S. is in desperate need of systemic change.
We can’t go on this way much more: a corrupt and authoritarian president in Donald Trump; wealth inequality run amok; a Republican Party made up of religious and political extremists; billionaire control of the levers of power; climate change action blocked by fossil fuel companies in cahoots with politicians; and more — all while a large percentage of the American people can no longer afford the necessities of life or sustain themselves.
The world’s richest nation has turned into the world’s poorest nation.
If we don’t have a nonviolent revolution that changes the fundamental structure of the U.S., there won’t a civil society left.
And so my question is: Is it time for a revolution? That’s the point of this short, 2 1/2 minute video I made that’s at the top of this page.
