In a world that appears with each and every day incredibly chaotic, topsy-turvy and upside down, what better way to bring in the holiday season than to celebrate “Imagine.”
In 1971, John Lennon released his song “Imagine,” which became the best-selling single of his solo career.
I have created a video to the song, which you will find above. In the video, I attempted to capture the spirit of the song.
With the holiday season upon us, the greatest gift we can give ourselves and everyone is to pay heed to the lyrics of the song and do whatever we can to create a world where all the people are living life in peace.
The lyrics encourage listeners to imagine a world of peace, without materialism, without borders separating nations, and without religion.
Rolling Stone magazine ranked “Imagine” number three on its list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time,” describing it as “an enduring hymn of solace and promise that has carried us through extreme grief, from the shock of Lennon’s own death in 1980 to the unspeakable horror of September 11. It is now impossible to imagine a world without ‘Imagine,’ and we need it more than he ever dreamed.”
I would second that. In these times, when darkness and hate have cast a spell over the world, “Imagine” is the answer, and we need it more than ever.
On October 9 1990, more than one billion people listened to a broadcast of the song on what would have been Lennon’s 50th birthday.
Former US President Jimmy Carter said, “in many countries around the world—my wife and I have visited about 125 countries—you hear John Lennon’s song ‘Imagine’ used almost equally with national anthems.”
It truly is a song that should be the anthem of the world.
Let’s imagine all the people living in a world of peace. In doing so, you may be a dreamer, but you won’t be the only one.
